The Contextual Jesus!

Two and a half Questions

Why are there so many interpretations of Jesus?

Do you feel like your interpretation is the right/only one? Why

  1. A short answer is that people see and interpret Jesus in their own context. There is a song that says it well...some people see him lilly white, some almond eyes...and so forth. I think the title is "Some People See Him". Have you ever noticed the variety of cultures represented in Nativity sets?

  2. I think your culture dictates your perception of Jesus. If we are made in the "image of God" then we all have the liberty to interpret that passage how we see fit. Hence, the multiple interpretations.

You don't think this is dangerous to have so many different interpretations?

It makes me a little uncomfortable because it makes everyones interpretation legitimate.

In some ways this is very good but in other very unusual and uncomfortable
