What a Minister Should NEVER Do!

Should you put all of your information up on line for people to see as an individual? Should it be true? If you are a minister should you put your personal information online

One author says

• “Make sure every possible bit of information that anyone could want to know about you in on the web, searchable by Google” (page 44 of What Would Google Do? By Jeff Jarvis)

Can we please talk about this!!!

  1. Wow, great question Pastor C!! My short answer is to put up ALMOST "every possible bit of information." My name's out there. My email address is harder to find, but with that said it's not hard to find a link to click and a form to fill out. My Facebook & Twitter accounts are in the top 10 on Google if you search my name, and from there it's not hard to find my website.

But you won't find my phone number. You won't find any detailed info about my kids (ok, there's a little if you're my Facebook friend - but my public profile is locked down).

But what's more important - or better yet, what's more interesting? I don't have any illusion that people are interested in what grade school I attended or my birthdate or what kind of car I drive. What I HOPE people are interested in are my ideas. And yes, those are out there. And they're searchable by Google.

  2. I certainly agree with you on the "ALMOST" part because I am certain that people can not tolerate all the information about me. I also come from a unique standpoint because I think cultural lenses (like race) make the information more or less significant.

As far as authentic ideas...i think you have to be talking crazy just to get someones attention. People seem to want to look up your less appealing, controversial, or simply immoral information, not to the end of celebration but gossip....that is one of the main reason why I disagree

What do you do if you know your information might be unacceptable? Criminal? Shameful?

Can a concerned and insightful individual help with this question?

  3. i think that you shouldnt put all your information online because you never know who is on the web and who is looking for some trouble to get into or some identity to steal!

  4. Yes and No it depends on what you post on the there. if it is just your name then yes but then if you start adding personal information as in where you live and addres and everything then no
